Algorithms and Data Structures Groupad.informatik.uni-freiburg.de
We are looking at complex and typically ill-defined real-world problems, seek formalizations that are simple but not too simple, analyze the resulting problems theoretically, carefully implement the solutions thus found, run experiments to verify that empiricial and theoretical behavior match, and eventually integrate our findings in fully-functional systems or prototypes that can be used by others.
Director: Prof. Dr. Hannah Bast
Applied Computer Science – AI, HCI and Smart Homeshaw-hamburg.de
The department researches on AI, Smart Homes, HCI, Autonomous Robots and Smart Interaction.
Director: Prof. Dr. Kai von Luck
Applied Computer Science and Formal Description Methodsaifb.kit.edu
We focus on the development and application of informatics analysis and modelling methods as well as on platforms supporting the design and operation of distributed systems. A focus of our research activities is to create reliable, stable, controllable, and trustworthy informatics systems that adapt to their tasks in an organic way.
Director: Prof. Dr. York Sure-Vetter
Applied Informatics – Cognitive Interaction Technologyaiweb.techfak.uni-bielefeld.de
In our research we target artificial intelligent systems that support people in solving relevant problems which – according to our basic assumption – can only be successful by engaging in meaningful interaction with humans. We therefore develop intelligent systems such as robots, smart environments or assistive systems which provide intuitive interaction protocols and affordances by combining multi-modal perception with user and situation modelling. The user is brought into the loop from early on in continuous development-evaluation cycles.
Director: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Britta Wrede
